The sanding technology is a widely adopted processing method in the wood processing, furniture and building decoration industries of all sizes. It is not only used for thickness control processing of artificial boards and solid wood components, but also for fine surface sanding of veneers and paint films, aiming to improve product quality, enhance decorative effects, improve product grade and reduce costs.

The machinery used in sanding processing is diverse. For panel sanding, long belt sanders and wide belt sanders are commonly used. The long belt sanders of Dongguan Furniture Machinery Factory can be divided into long belt sanders with a sliding worktable and a hand-controlled pressure block and long belt sanders with a pressure block and a felt rib strip. The former can move the sanding workpiece on the worktable with guide rails and apply pressure to the pressure block with a handheld control lever. The sanding belt sands the workpiece under the action of the pressure block. This sanding machine has a simple structure and low investment cost. It can sand large-sized solid wood panels or artificial panels with veneered wood surfaces. With skilled operators, it can achieve better surface sanding results. It replaces the hand-controlled pressure plate in the cutting direction movement with an air pressure pressure pad. The pressure pad covers the entire width of the workpiece. However, when the contact area between the sanding belt and the workpiece is too large, it increases power consumption. Moreover, a large amount of wood chips are prone to stick to the sanding belt and the sanding belt is prone to heat up, thereby shortening its service life. The set felt rib strip can overcome the above defects and improve the sanding quality.

There is also a multi-axis pressing block type long belt sanding machine. It is suitable for sanding hollow parts. Even if there is slight unevenness on the surface of the hollow parts, it can still achieve good sanding results.

There are four basic models of the wideband sanding machine. The single-band wideband sanding machine with contact rollers (mostly steel rollers) is mainly used for the fixed-thickness sanding and deep-cutting sanding of workpieces, as shown in Figure B. The single-band wideband sanding machine with a pressure pad has rollers mostly made of rubber, which is mainly used for sanding the surface of panel pieces. Figure C shows the double-band wideband sanding machine. There are three settings during processing: ① Use only the first set of contact rollers, ② Use only the second set of pressure rollers, ③ Use both the contact rollers and the pressure rollers simultaneously. Therefore, when this machine is equipped with different grit sand belts, it can simultaneously perform fixed-thickness and surface fine sanding on the workpiece. The triple-band wideband sanding machine, when equipped with three different sand belts, can not only perform fixed-thickness sanding on the workpiece, but also perform coarse and fine sanding on the decorative veneer or paint film, achieving the purpose of one machine for multiple uses.
